- Vizzavona – Rest Day
- August 2023
Vizzavona is known to hikers as the mid-point on the GR20. We had made the halfway point which meant the northern half was now complete, we were on to the southern route from here on in.

There was nothing really here in Vizzavona apart from a couple of hotels and a train station.

Our plan had been to rest. However, on waking up today we were already getting itchy feet so we decided over breakfast to catch a train to a mountain village called Corte, to explore. The train journey took us 1 hour.
Corte was once the capital of Corsica. We explored the old town which meant us hiking upwards again to the old fortress on the hill.

From here we wondered the streets exploring some more before finding a bustling street cafe to relax in for a bit and enjoy the atmosphere, just what we needed after exploring the mountains.

Then it was back to Vizzavona. Our French friend had told us about a wonderful burger and chips he had eaten the day before from the cafe that sat next to the railway station. So off we went to get some food. When it appeared it did not look too wonderful and we were disappointed we had not chosen to eat again in our wonderful hotel. Nevertheless we scoffed the food once we had doused it in tomato sauce and mayonnaise to cover the greasy taste before heading back to the hotel to prepare for starting back hiking. I would live to regret that greasy chips and burger!!
