The route traverses forested slopes for most of the day. Although there are some steep and rugged ascents and descents, these are quite short, and most of the time the gradients are gentle in comparison to other days and the paths and tracks followed are fairly easy – again in comparison to other days!
For the most part the route rises and falls gently, and basically contours across forested mountainsides.
After reaching Bocca di Verdi we decided we wouldn’t camp here but instead have lunch and then continue along the GR20 route for another few hours which endured a stiff climb to the Refuge de Prati.
This involved a forested climb which gives way to steep, open mountainside. The route drifts from side to side along a ridge.
We had done a little extra walking today to reach this point but tomorrow it would help as it was going to be another long steep and strenuous day.
As the night progressed the cloud came in and the wind picked up and it got freezing cold.
