A Whirlwind Weekend in Fersit

With a busy weekend of other commitments, we didn’t hit the road until late Saturday night, making it just outside Fort William before parking up for the night in the van.

The plan was simple – squeeze in a Highland adventure before the Monday routine called us back.

Sunday morning, we headed to the quiet little spot of Fersit and laced up for a brilliant day on the hills.  This is a lovely drive in, it’s such an idyllic area and I’m so envious of the one or two houses dotted about. What a place to live!

East of Loch Treig are the two Munros of Chno Dearg and Stob Coire Sgriodain. They are very different in character and linked together by a vast grass-covered plateau.

First up was the rockier ridge to Stob Coire Sgriodain, which provided us with a great walk and fantastic views, every step was worth the effort.

Loch Treig sparkled below and the surrounding peaks stretched endlessly into the distance.  Classic Highland magic.

This was then followed by Chno Dearg, with its wide, grassy slopes.  On reaching this summit we did not hang around as the wind was blowing a hoolie and it was freezing!

The walk off the hill was a case of head down, march forward, as we found our own way down through boggy heather ground.

No lingering over late lunches this time, just a final look back, a breath of fresh air and then straight off the hill and back down the road.

A proper hit of nature in a tight weekend window and somehow, it makes Monday feel a little more manageable!
