Battled by the Wind in Glen Spean: Beinn Teallach & Beinn à Chaorainn

  • May 2025

With most of the weekend already accounted for, we set off late on Saturday once again, this time bound for Glen Spean, where we tucked ourselves into the van for a quick overnight stop. Sunday’s goal: the two remote Munros of Beinn Teallach and Beinn a’ Chaorainn.

Making the most of the dry spell we’ve had we decided on these two munros as usually they’re very boggy, at least today they were going to be dry!

These munros sit above Glen Spean and west of the Creag Meagaidh massif.

Though the skies stayed dry and the landscape looked stunning, conditions on the ground were anything but easy.

From the first step to the last, we were hammered by relentless wind for six-and-a-half hours, making for a physically and mentally tough day out. The terrain didn’t offer much relief either, adding to the sense of being thoroughly battered and bruised by the time we got back to the van.

But the views, oh, the views. Sweeping panoramas stretched across to Ben Nevis and the Glen Coe hills and we could even see over the valley to where we’d hiked last weekend.

Moments like that make you pause, even when the wind’s trying to knock you over.

Another wild Highland weekend squeezed into a tight window, tough going this time, but totally worth it.
