GR20 – Corsica – Stage 12

Refuge Prati

It had been a very windy and cold night and this continued throughout the day to the extent I felt miserable the whole day. I had so been looking forward to this day as it was a stunning ridge walk. At one point when we were on a very steep and rocky summit gusts of winds were hitting 70 mph. It became very dangerous and very difficult to move. This was something we had raised whilst being on the GR20. No Refuge provides you with a weather forecast and on lots of occasions we have had no signal or battery life on phones to check, so you kind of have to just move.

We left camp and straight away headed upwards. The route drifts from side to side along a ridge and we were continually battered by the wind.

On a calm day this would have been a great hike but not today, it was a pure ordeal. It was steep and rocky in some places and what should have been easier in others wasnt due to conditions.

There was a forest around Bocca di Laparò, which provided shelter from the wind for a bit but this was soon followed by a climb onto open mountainsides again.

Today I was so relieved to see the campsite. This had been a very rough day. On setting up the tent it was simply a relief just to get inside and shelter from the elements.
