Iceland 2026 Part Two – The Adventure We’ve Been Waiting For

The Calm Before the Carry 🇮🇸

  • Reykjavík, Iceland 🇮🇸

We touched down in Reykjavík bright and early running on excitement, coffee and the slightly surreal feeling that our next adventure was finally beginning.

Our flight was at 6.10am from Edinburgh so it gave us a full day and night in this amazing city.

The best part? It felt so good to be back in the world’s northermost sovereign state capital. Eight years after our first visit, the colourful streets, cosy cafés and familiar skyline instantly reminded us why we fell in love with Iceland in the first place.

We spent the day wandering the city, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying one last taste of civilisation before heading into the Highlands.

By evening, the adventure really began. Out came the backpacks, dehydrated meals, waterproofs and camping gear as we packed for five days of complete self-sufficiency.

Every item had to earn its place, because by tomorrow morning we’d be carrying it all across more than 80 kilometres of Iceland’s wild and spectacular landscapes.

We shall enjoy civilisation while it lasts… for tomorrow the real adventure begins at 5.30am!
